Listen to Elsa Abi Khalil, Social Innovation Program Manager at Makesense.

Elsa joined Makesense to accelerate a substantial change in people's lives through social entrepreneurship. She's also a big believer in the power of 1) design-thinking and 2) collective intelligence.
1) With design-thinking, you can get yourself to learn anything! It's the Identify a Challenge > Brainstorm > Create a solution > Test > Iterate cycle that has allowed her in moments of uncertainty to come up with great ideas and move forward.
2) And with collective intelligence, the smarter person in the room is THE ROOM.

Elsa believes in community power and she believes that every individual has talent(s) waiting to be harnessed.

And when you get right down to it, she's much more than that -- She's an activist, an entrepreneur, a blogger, a branding strategist, and a cooking amateur (ask her anything about cream-filled cupcakes. Hummus, and sushi cakes seriously)

Listen to Jimmy Karam, Cofounder of FoundersBei and a dear friend of ours, to learn more about what makes coworking spaces – defined as membership-based workspaces where diverse groups of freelancers, remote workers, and other independent professionals work together in a shared, communal setting – so effective; and it's more than just the free coffee.

According to a Harvard Business Review report, people who use coworking spaces see their work as meaningful.

First, unlike a traditional office, coworking spaces consist of members who work for a range of different companies, ventures, and projects. Because there is little direct competition or internal politics, they don’t feel they have to put on a work persona to fit in. Working amidst people doing different kinds of work can also make one’s own work identity stronger.

Second, meaning may also come from working in a culture where it is the norm to help each other out, and there are many opportunities to do so; the variety of workers in the space means that coworkers have unique skill sets that they can provide to other community members.

Lastly, meaning may also be derived from a more concrete source: The social mission inherent in the Coworking Manifesto, an online document signed by members of more than 1,700 working spaces. It clearly articulates the values that the coworking movement aspires to, including community, collaboration, learning, and sustainability. These values get reinforced at the annual Global Coworking UnConference. So in many cases, it’s not simply the case that a person is going to work; they’re also part of a social movement.

They have more job control. Coworking spaces are normally accessible 24/7 which the case at FoundersBei.

They feel part of a community. Connections with others are a big reason why people pay to work in a communal space, as opposed to working from home for free or renting a nondescript office. Each coworking space has its own vibe, and the managers of each space go to great lengths to cultivate a unique experience that meets the needs of their respective members.

We'd like to take this chance and thank Jimmy Karam and Elias Maalouli for their hard work in cultivating an awesome experience for the FoundersBei community members.

She also worked full-time in the estimation of mega projects related to the Oil & Gas Industry for several years while growing her companies along the way.

EDGE and EDGE Middle East now offer customized and standard solutions, in Lebanon, Iraq and other countries of the MENA region, for setting up and equipping OEM vehicle service facilities (Mercedes Benz, BMW, Porsche, Audi), private workshops, repair centers for organizations with fleets (Army, Embassies, Oil Companies, Airports), and most importantly for Governmental Vehicle Inspection Centers (Periodic Technical Inspection like the Mecanique in Lebanon).

She introduced the periodic technical vehicle inspection concept, especially to rural areas of Kurdistan - Iraq, through the development of high-end inspection centers meeting international standards and thus gradually elevating the condition of vehicles driving on the roads there.

She recently accepted the challenge of setting up MAHA Middle East FZE – a regional subsidiary for a leading German equipment manufacturer, handling the Automotive Aftermarket Project activities in 14 regional countries including the Levant, Gulf, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

Chantal was elected in May 2016 as the only female member of the municipal council of the Municipality of Zalka where she lives and has her office in Lebanon.
